5-6 WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD

Bible Story:
Long ago there lived a woman named Dorcas. She heard about Jesus and how he died on the cross to forgive her sins. Dorcas knew that she would live in heaven someday with Jesus. She loved Jesus very much. Dorcas knew Jesus had done something special for her and she wanted to do special things for other people to show her love for Jesus. In the town where Dorcas lived, many people were very poor. Sometimes the people didn't have enough food to eat. Sometimes the clothes they wore had holes in them. Dorcas showed her love for Jesus by giving the people good food to eat. She showed her love for Jesus by giving the people new clothes. The people in the town knew that Dorcas loved Jesus. They were thankful for their friend Dorcas, who learned from Jesus to be kind.

Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help us to show Your love by being helpers and giving Your good gifts to others.
Amen

Children will learn:
To be helpers and share God's good gifts with other people.

Songs:

Dorcas was a Helper (Did You Ever See a Lassie)

Dorcas was a helper, a helper, a helper
Dorcas was a helper,
She loved everyone.

She loved them and helped them.
She loved them and helped them.
Dorcas was a helper,
She loved everyone.

I can be a helper a helper, a helper.
I can be a helper, And love everyone.

We spun the spinner and named the shape the spinner landed on.

We pointed to the number that Mrs. Schenck called out.

She can't trick us.

We began the day with out welcome song, "Oh Here We Are Together."

The story of Dorcas.

We named the color represented on the disc.

We took turns puling out a disc from the May basket.

We did well with this color review game.

This was one of the books of the day.

The class was able to "read" this book.

Here's the other. It helped us review opposite words.

The Bible story board.

Bean bag laundry basket toss.

We examined various types of fabric.

We planted May flowers. That's what April showers bring-FLOWERS!

Roll the number cube. Count the dots. Say the number.

The children used their fine motor skills to pin clothes pins on the clothing.

Chefs at work.

We reviewed prepositions.

Using puzzles, we reviewed the shapes we've learned this year.
