5-4 WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD

Bible Story:
Long ago there lived a woman named Dorcas. She heard about Jesus and how he died on the cross to forgive her sins. Dorcas knew that she would live in heaven someday with Jesus. She loved Jesus very much. Dorcas knew Jesus had done something special for her and she wanted to do special things for other people to show her love for Jesus. In the town where Dorcas lived, many people were very poor. Sometimes the people didn't have enough food to eat. Sometimes the clothes they wore had holes in them. Dorcas showed her love for Jesus by giving the people good food to eat. She showed her love for Jesus by giving the people new clothes. The people in the town knew that Dorcas loved Jesus. They were thankful for their friend Dorcas, who learned from Jesus to be kind.

Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help us to show Your love by being helpers and giving Your good gifts to others.
Amen

Children will learn:
To be helpers and share God's good gifts with other people.

Songs:

Dorcas was a Helper (Did You Ever See a Lassie)

Dorcas was a helper, a helper, a helper
Dorcas was a helper,
She loved everyone.

She loved them and helped them.
She loved them and helped them.
Dorcas was a helper,
She loved everyone.

I can be a helper a helper, a helper.
I can be a helper, And love everyone.
I'll love them and help them.
I'll love them and help them.
I can be a helper,
And love everyone.

We played with the castles.

We placed small clothes pins on pants, shorts, shirts and dresses. It was quite a workout for the small muscles in our hands.

Some children were able to name the clothing and the color of each item.

All aboard!

Working together; building a unique structure.

Rainbow colors for the month of May. We painted the animals a variety of colors. This month we are reviewing all the colors we've learned throughout the year.

Do a dot on a diamond. Diamond is the shape for May. We can make a diamond with our fingers.

We worked on the letters U-W.

We stamped our numbers. The number for the month of May is 10.

We got to choose the numbers we wanted to use. We had to name the numbers as we stamped them.

The children had to guess the Bible story by pulling items out of the grab bag. Needle, thread, buttons and clothes to name a few. We were stumped. Now we know the story of a special lady named Dorcas.

We colored the Bible story handout.

Wow, it was warm outside today.

We enjoyed playing with our friends.

We rolled the number cube. Then we counted the dots. We are getting good at moving our finger from spot to spot as we count.

We reached into a May basket and pulled out a colored disc.

We named the color. Some children recognized some of the letters written on the disc.

I called out numbers randomly and as I did, the children touched the number on the board.

Week of the Young Child. We enjoyed a freeze pop. YUMMY!

Books that were read to the class.

We're off to a good start, this week.
