1-7

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

In January, our concepts for the month are: Color-White/Black, Shape-Star and Number-6.
This week, during Jesus Time, the focus will be on Epiphany and the Visit of the Wise Men. The children learned that these men, Magi, followed a star to find Jesus. These men were very smart and they studied the stars; that's why they were called wise men. They traveled from the east by camel. The wanted to worship Jesus and bring him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. I showed the class 3 special tin boxes filled with similar substances. We used our senses to look, smell and touch these gifts. As the week continues we will touch on King Herod and Joseph's dream to flee Bethlehem to Egypt. The words Epiphany, Magi, frankincense and myrrh are fun words to say.

Key Points:
1. Jesus is God's gift to us.
2. He forgives our sins.
3. These men brought gifts to worship Jesus.
4. We go to church to worship and honor him.

The Story: Matt. 2:1-12, Gifts For Baby Jesus

Soon many of the people who came to register in Bethlehem went home. Mary and Joseph moved into a house. One day they had visitors who came from far away in the east. These were wise men. They had followed a star to find the little Jesus. They bowed down and worshiped God's only son and gave him expensive gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. As we ended our Jesus Time the class shared stories about Christmas at their house. We talked about the different presents they gave and received. They all agreed, with a little reminder, that JESUS was their BEST Christmas gift.

These are the pictures from Wednesday.

We worked puzzles. This activity develops fine motor skills, thinking skills and visual skills.

We used the sensory table to work on our scissor skills.

We used the magnetic letters of the alphabet to helps us learn the names of the letters.

We enjoyed looking at books.

We used white paint and marshmallows to reinforce the color of the month which is white. The class made quite a snow storm.

I like to ride the horse.

Playing with friends.

We colored a picture of a gift to remind us of Epiphany and the gifts the wise men brought to Jesus.

We made door knockers to remind us of our Bible story.

Chalking with a friend.

We matched mittens by color.

The students enjoyed matching stars by color.

Our Bible story board.

The story.

We searched for stars hidden in our room.

These are the books that I read to the class. They really enjoyed the stories.

Fun times in the Commons for recess today. Balls, hula hoops, hoppers and tunnels.

We took turns sorting blocks.

We used glitter to decorate our stars.

Giddy Up.

Follow that star.

We matched small, medium and large stars to the template.

We used the movement cards to tell us how to move.

The girls and boys searched for stars hidden in the  classroom.

Using this brochure we learned how to be a germ fighter.

2 of our action and finger plays for the week.

A BIG book that retold the Bible story.

The cards that were used for our large motor movement.
