1-6

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

In January, our concepts for the month are: Color-White/Black, Shape-Star and Number-6.
This week, during Jesus Time, the focus will be on Epiphany and the Visit of the Wise Men. The children learned that these men, Magi, followed a star to find Jesus. These men were very smart and they studied the stars; that's why they were called wise men. They traveled from the east by camel. The wanted to worship Jesus and bring him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. I showed the class 3 special tin boxes filled with similar substances. We used our senses to look, smell and touch these gifts. As the week continues we will touch on King Herod and Joseph's dream to flee Bethlehem to Egypt. The words Epiphany, Magi, frankincense and myrrh are fun words to say.

Key Points:
1. Jesus is God's gift to us.
2. He forgives our sins.
3. These men brought gifts to worship Jesus.
4. We go to church to worship and honor him.

The Story: Matt. 2:1-12, Gifts For Baby Jesus

Soon many of the people who came to register in Bethlehem went home. Mary and Joseph moved into a house. One day they had visitors who came from far away in the east. These were wise men. They had followed a star to find the little Jesus. They bowed down and worshiped God's only son and gave him expensive gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. As we ended our Jesus Time the class shared stories about Christmas at their house. We talked about the different presents they gave and received. They all agreed, with a little reminder, that JESUS was their BEST Christmas gift.

Our pictures from Tuesday.

The children used various shapes to fill in the  puzzles.

New toys were well received.

The work bench and tools remind us that Joseph was a carpenter.

We use our thinking skills when working puzzles.

Puzzles also strengthen fine motor skills and help the children with hand/eye coordination.

It is fun to share a toy with our friends.

We traced a star with a yellow marker.

We used crayons to color pictures from our Bible story.

The boys enjoyed playing with the family doll house. This toy reinforces the concept of Jesus and his family living in a home and Jesus growing as a child.

We are learning to hold scissors correctly. Cutting strips of wrapping paper was enjoyed by many of our PDO friends.

We have a rocking horse in the room! It's so much fun.

 We love to cut.

I am pretending to be a wise man riding a camel traveling to Bethlehem to bring gifts to Jesus.

We used a large marshmallow to paint a snow scene.

Snow is white.

The magnetic board helps us learn the letters of the alphabet.

I enjoyed creating a chalk picture.

We used water color paint and the 3 wise men and the gifts they brought to Jesus.

Let's match stars.

We can name the color of each star.

We also paired mittens by color.

A picture of 3 wise men.

We reviewed the story of the birth of Jesus. The class did a great job retelling the story with just a few prompts!

Books that were read to the class. The students are such good listeners.

Boys and girls enjoy time to look at books.

We practiced jumping, hopping and skipping.

We can crawl.

Too cold to go outside. We went to the commons instead.

Hula hoops, running races and playing with balls gave us lots of exercise.

Friends in Christ.

We found stars hidden in the classroom.

Using this brochure we learned how to be a germ fighter.

2 of our action and finger plays for the week.

A BIG book that retold the Bible story.

The cards that were used for our large motor movement.

We matched small, medium and large stars to a template.

That is how we spent our day in PDO.
