5-7 WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD

Bible Story:
Long ago there lived a woman named Dorcas. She heard about Jesus and how he died on the cross to forgive her sins. Dorcas knew that she would live in heaven someday with Jesus. She loved Jesus very much. Dorcas knew Jesus had done something special for her and she wanted to do special things for other people to show her love for Jesus. In the town where Dorcas lived, many people were very poor. Sometimes the people didn't have enough food to eat. Sometimes the clothes they wore had holes in them. Dorcas showed her love for Jesus by giving the people good food to eat. She showed her love for Jesus by giving the people new clothes. The people in the town knew that Dorcas loved Jesus. They were thankful for their friend Dorcas, who learned from Jesus to be kind.

Prayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help us to show Your love by being helpers and giving Your good gifts to others.
Amen

Children will learn:
To be helpers and share God's good gifts with other people.

Songs:

Dorcas was a Helper (Did You Ever See a Lassie)

Dorcas was a helper, a helper, a helper
Dorcas was a helper,
She loved everyone.

She loved them and helped them.
She loved them and helped them.
Dorcas was a helper,
She loved everyone.

I can be a helper a helper, a helper.
I can be a helper, And love everyone.

Matching clothing to different types of weather

We had a wonderful day in PDO! Take a look.

We practiced identifying the 9 basic colors we learned throughout the school year.

We matched shapes using plastic Oreo cookie halves. This activity was a good review of the 10 shapes we've learned this year. It was also a good exercise for our hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

We pointed to the shapes as they were called out by Mrs. Koenig.

We pretended to be Dorcas. We used clothes sewing cards.

Toys, Toys, Toys! We love to use our imaginations as we play with the toys.

We love the bus. Some children even sing the song, "The Wheels on the Bus," as they play.

We explored fabric. The children used their words to describe each piece. We tried to imagine what kinds of cloth Dorcas might have used for clothing.

We reviewed opposite words.

Since today was wear stripes to school, I chose this book to read. We looked for stripes in our classroom but didn't find many.

We tossed beanbags into the laundry basket. We are very good at this game.

Time for fun outside.

Yum, Yum...freeze pop treats.

We potted flowers.

Th class used foam stickers to glam up the clothes.

This work of art will be in the hallway next week.

Clothing... what type of weather would it be?

Our Jesus board.

So now you know what we did today.
