Today the children colored pictures depicting the story of Noah. The class enjoyed playing with the toys and interacting with their friends. The children used colored markers to color animals. In addition to coloring animals they also got to work with water color paints, for the first time this year. Key words when using water colors are: water, paint, paper. They painted tools that might have been used to build the ark. We've learned the names and how to use the following: hammer, saw, wrench, pliers, nails, nuts and bolts. This helped with our review of our Bible story-Noah. The children learned how to "sew" using a small paper plate and yarn. The boys and girls painted a paper plate orange. This is the first step in creating the October Take Home project. All students enjoyed playing with orange play doh, circular cutters, and Fall/Halloween cutters. Girls and boys enjoyed stamping 3 orange circles. This month's bulletin board will feature the work of the children. Our concepts are orange, circle and #3. The sensory table is filled with corn kernels, dried corn, corncobs, gourds, husks, containers/spoons for filling, funnels, magnifying glasses for looking at details and tweezers for pulling off kernels of corn from the cob. It is also fun to take the kernels off with our fingers. The table will help children with fine motor skill development, sensory awareness, and oral language. It was a great day to play outside with the other PDO classes. We sang songs, watched the Bible story online, enjoyed listening to 3 stories: Polar Bear What Do You See, Dora's Halloween and The Hungry Caterpillar. Each child chose a book for me to read to them. They enjoy that personal time. To close out the day the girls and boys sorted shapes and finished an art project centered around the Bible story. These are displayed in the hallway.
